Former MLB Pitcher Joins EIU Coaching Staff

A former Major League Baseball pitcher joins the Eastern Illinois University coaching staff.

Jason Anderson has been named assistant baseball coach at Eastern Illinois following 11 seasons of professional baseball, including three seasons in Major League Baseball. Anderson will serve as the team’s pitching coach.

The Danville native spent time within the New York Mets, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies organizations from 2000-10.

He also played for the Somerset Patriots in 2011.

Anderson made his major league debut in 2003 with the Yankees before playing with the Mets later that season.

He also saw action with the Indians in 2004 and with the Yankees again in 2005.

Anderson played collegiately at Illinois from 1998-2000 where he named an ABCA First-Team All-American in 2000 while also being tabbed Big Ten Pitcher of the Year.

Following the 1999 season, he earned Academic All-American honors.

He was drafted by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2000 MLB Draft.

In addition to his professional baseball experience, Anderson was an assistant baseball coach at Illinois (2011) and Danville C.C. (2010).

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois.
