Rural Mason resident Travis Macklin received a Distinguished Act Award at the Effingham County Board meeting last night.

The award came after Macklin saved a young woman from drowning on April 2nd, after she crashed into the Little Wabash River.

After the crash, her vehicle began moving down the river until it was stopped by small trees.

Macklin, who saw the incident from his kitchen window, ran to the car and got her out before she was further swept away.

The young woman, who couldn't swim, was brought to dry ground before emergency first responders arrived.
