University of Illinois Women's Basketball First Title Win

The University of Illinois women's basketball team has won its first title game in history.

The Fighting Illini, led by head coach Shauna Green, won the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament title after beating Villanova 71-57

Makira Cook of Illinois scored a team high 27 points with 22 points coming in the second half.

This performance led to her winning Most Outstanding Player, according to University of Illinois Athletics.

Gensis Bryant scored 17 points and 5 rebounds for Illinois in the victory, according to the University of Illinois Athletics.

Shauna Green is now 41-25 all-time with Illinois.

"The journey, and when you're going through adversity, it makes it so much more worth it when you get to what you want," Green said.

The University of Illinois ends their season with a 19-15 record overall and won their last 5 games of the season for the title push.
