With the Coles County Sheriff's election heating up, a local police union makes their endorsement.
The Fraternal Order of Police endorses patrol sergeant Steve Spear, who's running against incumbant Sheriff Jimmy Rankin.
F.O.P.L. said the endorsement is motivated by, according to them, a consistent lack of presence and leadership exhibited by Rankin during his first term.
WEIU reached out to Sheriff Rankin regarding the endorsement, but we were told, he was out of the office today.
Both candidates are running on the Republican ticket.
The Illinois primary is Tuesday March 20th.
Early voting is underway in Coles County.
