The city of Mattoon names a new police chief.
Mattoon officials said Deputy Chief Jason Taylor has been named Chief of Police with duties effective December 1st.
Taylor's appointment to police chief comes after a city council vote Tuesday night.
Current chief Jeff Branson is retiring from the position to take over as Police Chief at Lake Land College.
