Effingham and Douglas Counties received news city officials hope will encourage more business development.
Earlier this week, the state designated six sites around Illinois as enterprise zones.
Douglas and Effingham counties were two of the chosen areas.
Officials said enterprise zones are meant to encourage investment in depressed areas, and give tax incentives to qualified businesses.
They include tax exemptions on building materials, and utilities.
