Douglas County Museum

The Douglas County museum is looking for a new source of revenue.

The museum has been the home to many historical artifacts and a place where people can go to find genealogical records.

Thanks to previous donations and grants, the museum has been able to keep its doors open, but those funds are running low.

For that reason, a referendum has been placed on the ballot for next month's consolidated election to generate money through a taxing district.

President of the museum Judy Landeck says the museum is important because it teaches our younger generation important historical facts.

The referendum asks voters to support a Historical Museum District, and if it's approved, the tax would generate about $70,000.

To break it down further - the owner of a $100,000 home in Douglas county would end up paying about $5.47 per year.
