Tuesday, 21 March 2017

The Effingham Police Department is warning all residents of a old scam that has resurfaced.

Police say the scam has been targeting people since 2008.

According to Effingham Police Department, victims will answer to a male who is posing as a public defender repersenting their grandson.

Police say the caller will then speak with another male who is posing as the grandson.

When questions start to get personal, the call will then be handed back over to the public defender.

He will then say that the judge agreed to be lenient if the fine for the damage is paid quickly.

Police Say The scam has become more popular due to the amount of personal information available online.

Chief Jeff Fuesting reccomends examining the case before acting.

If anyone has received a phone call, the are encouraged to contact the Effingham Police Department.
