Illinois State Police say a man is facing charges for killing his wife nearly 26 years ago.

56-year-old Gregory Houser of Mansfield is charged with four counts of first degree murder.

The arrest comes after an investigation by state police into the death of Gregory's estranged wife, Sheryl Houser.

Police say 29-year-old Sheryl Houser was found dead on October 5, 1990 in the garage of her Mahomet home.

The initial coroner’s inquest revealed the cause of death as “undetermined.”

Police say omprovements in forensic testing resulted in new evidence in the case, and in July of 2016 a new inquest was held.

The new coroner’s inquest determined that Sheryl’s death was a homicide.

Gregory Houser is currently being held without bond in the Piatt County jail.
