Heroin Problem

Four deaths in central and southern Illinois have happened recently believed linked to bad heroin. News Watch's Jesse Guinn spoke with authorities who have a warning about the potentially lethal batch circulating. Area drug court officials work with heroin addicts on a daily basis. They say they've seen a variety of cases some severe and they want to make sure everyone is aware of how dangerous this drug really is. Also, Effingham County coroner Duane Guffey says just today, there were two more overdoses reported. Those were not fatal but another death investigation involving the drug is pending. Representatives of Saint Anthony's Hospital and Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center say they have seen a rise in heroine overdoses in the past year. A multi-agency investigation into the problem is underway. We will continue following this story and bring you more details as we learn them.
