U of I Creates Budget Task Force

One of the top administrators at the University of Illinois' flagship campus says a new task force looking at the school's budget aims to plot a long-term financial course.

Ilesanmi Adesida is the provost at the Urbana-Champaign campus.

Adesida says the school typically adjusts year to year as it watches state funding fall.

He says state support for the university has dropped from more than $1 billion a year in fiscal 2002 to $662 million in the year that just ended.

Adesida says the task force will discuss spending priorities for the next five to 10 years.

He says the university may decide to consolidate or end some functions, but it also wants to produce more of its own revenue.
