As you head to the polls you may notice more young people.

Illinois election officials say close to 8,000 17-year-olds have registered to vote in next month's primary.

As News Watch reported, teenagers who turn 18 by the November election may cast a vote March 18.

Illinois is the 20th state to allow 17-year olds to vote and lawmakers say the measure expands participation in the electoral process.

The general election is November 4.
