Winter Weather in Charleston

Friday, 6 December 2013

Winter has arrived in Coles County. Last night more than half of inch of snow and ice fell in Charleston causing some inconviences for drivers. For Eastern Illinois University Equipment operator Reggie Galey, events like this mean early mornings. A typical day after a snow event for EIU groundskeepers usually begins around 3 in the morning. It's Galey's job to make sure Eastern Illinois University's parking lots, stairs, and sidewalks are safe. Reggie spent most of the day driving a tractor clearing parking lots on Eastern's campus. He says he's been taking care of campus long enough to know that dressing in layers is just how to keep warm during these cold days. Even though this is the first measurable snow this year in Charleston, Galey says it could be worse. He said Friday's snow was light compared to what he has seen in the past.
