Update: Mason Point Resident Death

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

The Illinois Department of Public Health confirms they are investigating an incident at a Moultrie County residential care facility.

Sullivan fire chief Michael Piper says on the night of October 4th a resident of Mason Point nursing care facility died after falling from a window.

The Moultrie County Coroner says the resident was 92-years-old and did not jump.

Lynn Reed says the resident was trying to get out of her room, opened a window, put the screen under her bed and stepped out.

He says all of this happened between routine staff checks

Department spokeswoman Melanie Arnold says the investigation could take some time.

She says if findings warrant, a report will be filed and Mason Point will have ten days to respond.

Arnold says she couldn't comment further on the case.

News Watch has placed numerous calls to Mason Point for a response, but so far our calls have not been returned.
