Bench Installed at Charleston Park to Remember Group Home Resident

Tuesday, 23 July 2013

A memorial bench has been installed at a Charleston park to remember a former group home resident.

Paul McCann died in 2011 after an assault at the Graywood Foundation.

Two former group home employees, Marquis Harmon and Keyun Newble, are serving prison sentences in connection with his beating death.

McCann's sister, Kathleen Slovick, says the bench is in Morton Park.

She says the park was a favorite picnic destination for her brother.

The bench is inscribed "In loving memory of Paul F. McCann."

State legislation in the wake of McCann's death led to changes that could broadly impact the thousands of people who live in group homes and similar settings in Illinois.
