Indiana State Men's Basketball Head Coach rewarded Mid-Major Coach of the Year

Indiana State men's basketball head coach Josh Schertz is recently awarded Mid-Major Coach of the Year, announced by College Insider dot com ... this award is Coach Schertz's first ever national coach of the year award at Indiana State.

This award goes along with his previously obtained MVC Coach of the Year award, as well as his NABC District 16 Coach of the Year award this season.

According to Indiana State University Athletics' website, Coach Schertz has also guided the Sycamores to a 32-6 overall record this year heading into the program's first-ever National Invitational Tournament (NIT) championship appearance, defeating SMU, Minnesota, Cincinnati, and Utah to advance to the championship game in Indianapolis, being held at Hinkle Fieldhouse on April 4th.

This award is in response to Schertz's team's 32 and 6 record, as well as the team's best franchise conference record - set at 17 wins - as the Sycamores head to their first EVER N-I-T championship appearance in franchise history.

The Sycamores' recent performances has earned them national rankings from the AP Top 25, USA TODAY Coaches Poll, and CollegeInsider.com.

According to CollegeInsider.com's mid-major poll, Indiana State was ranked No. 1 for three-straight weeks.

Most recently, Coach Schertz has led Indiana State to back-to-back postseason appearances, appearing in the College Basketball Invitational last season, and according to gosycamores.com, Coach Schertz and the Sycamores also earned the No. 1 seed in that tournament, reflecting on a successful season and ride for the Trees' head coach.
