U of I Women Appear In WBIT Championship

Wednesday, 3 April 2024

This tournament has featured a bunch of firsts for the U of I Women's basketball team.

Illinois received a spot in the first ever WBIT as one of 32 teams to earn a berth in the opening competition.

After defeating Tulsa in the WBIT quarterfinals on Thursday, the Fighting Illini secured their spot as one of the last four teams of a non-conference postseason competition for the first time in their programs history.

The Orange and Blue will take the court against Villanova on Wednesday night in search of some hardware.

"It just makes everything worth it," said Illini senior Genesis Bryant. "We had some tough times. I think that's a common thing everyone was saying, but knowing that we can compete for a championship and cut down some nets still, even after how we started, is a blessing."

In hopes to make history once again, U of I is ready to step on the court with a championship trophy on the line.

Tip off for this game is Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
