Police Begin Distracted Driving Campaign

Wednesday, 27 March 2024

Police will be spending extra time on the roads looking for people texting and driving.

It's all part of a campaign called "U Drive. U Text. U Pay."

More than 200 local law enforcement agencies are involved in a campaign in April in honor Distracted Driving Awareness Month, police said.

Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of crashes, and people between the ages of 16 and 24 are especially at risk, authorities said.

Illinois Residents can be fined $75.00 for their first offense, and that price will increase by $25.00 each time an offense is added, according to LegalAidIllinois.org.
