A Mattoon High school teacher who stepped in to subdue a shooter inside the school's cafeteria is talking about that frightening day for the first time. Officials say because of Math Teacher Angela McQueen's quick response only one student was injured during the shooting. Earlier today the Illinois Education Association released this interview with McQueen. McQueen was honored for her heroic efforts during an afternoon reception at the school. She says in a moment like that, you just don't think, you react. The student who was shot has since been released from the hospital and is now back at school. The student who fired the shots has been charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm. The resource officer for Mattoon school district also helped control the high school shooting incident. It was that incident that prompted city and school officials to consider adding another resource officer to the district.
