Man Facing Charges after Coles County Chase

A homeless man is facing charges out of Coles County after police say he stole a vehicle.

Police say 36-year-old Nicholas Pinkerton, formally of Stugis Kentucky, was arrested Saturday in rural Coles County.

Police say Pinkerton is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing police.

Authorities say Pinkerton stole a car in Neoga and then drove through Mattoon where police officers tried to stop him.

They say a chase ensued and Pinkerton was taken into custody after crashing the car in rural Coles County.

He remains in jail.
