Mattoon High School Update

Monday, 25 September 2017

Nearly one thousand Mattoon High school students return to their first full day of class after last weeks shooting.

Officials said teachers opened up their classrooms for students to eat lunch, if they didn't want to eat in the cafeteria where the shooting took place.

They said clergy and counselors will be available as long as needed for students and staff.

The student accused in the shooting is scheduled back in court October 5th.

Last week, a judge ordered a mental evaluation on the suspect, who's a high school freshman.

They said the student is charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.

He remains in a state juvenile detention facility.

School officials said the victim is recovering.
