Lake Shelbyville Workers to Spray for Aggressive Honeysuckle

Monday, 21 August 2017

A pilot program to eradicate bush honeysuckle around Lake Shelbyville is scheduled for the fall.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the agressive plant is taking over much of the woods around Lake Shelbyvlle.

They say the plant will be treated with Rodeo Herbicide with the use of a crop-duster helicopter.

Officials say approximately 700 acres will be treated.

They say all areas to receive treatment have NOT been identified and Corps personnel would like to hear from any adjacent landowners that are interested in the program.

The Corps says While the aerial application is pretty precise, there could be some spray drift.

Due to archery deer season being underway, the chance of hunters being in the woods is high and hunters are asked to not hunt the target areas during treatment.

Maps of the areas to be treated will be located on the Lake Shelbyville Website and Facebook page prior to treatment.

Signs and maps will also be placed at the hunter/fisher lots as well as boat ramps.

Officials say Fisherman are also asked to stay out of the coves on either side of the treatment areas during application to avoid any wind drift.
