EIU Hires New Coach Fired by the U of I

Friday, 14 April 2017

Eastern Illinois University athletic director Tom Michael announces Matt Bollant will lead the women's basketball program.

Bollant will be formally introduced Monday as the 9th head coach in program history.

He comes to Eastern following a five year run with the University of Illinois.

Bollant was fired from U of I after finishing with a 22-62 record in five seasons.

Seven former players also filed a lawsuit against Bollant and other staff members claiming they created a racially abusive environment for the team.

Bollant denied any wrongdoing.

A law firm hired by U of I concluded the allegations were unfounded, but a settlement was reached.

Bollant replaces Debbie Black who's contract was not renewed by EIU.
