Douglas County Amish Immunization Clinic

Tuesday, 6 December 2016

The Amish Immunization Clinic in Arthur Illinois is continuing its mission to serve the population despite a recent funding scare. The staff says it's their dedication to public health that keeps them going and they've said not even state funding problems will make them abandon their cause. Having served the community in Douglas County since 2011 the Amish Immunization Clinic is continuing to thrive. Health administrator Amanda Minor said it all started after an untreated outbreak. Minor says in 2010, Pertussis also known as whooping cough resulted in the hospitalization of two infants that fueled their mission to vaccinate the community. And after settling in the Arthur Community Center and receiving grants, more than 5,000 vaccinations have been provided. And while future funding for the program is uncertain, Minor says it's her mission to keep it operational. Minor says the clinic still has funding through 2017 and if they happen to lose that funding in the future, they'll take other measures to make sure the community remains treated.
