Illinois' Community Colleges Bachelor's Degree

Tuesday, 29 November 2016

Currently there's 22 states in the U.S. that allow community colleges to offer a bachelor's degree and Illinois is considering being the 23rd. With the number of registered nurses expected to decline in the near future, Illinois lawmakers are considering ideas to help satisfy the demand. By offering bachelor degrees, community colleges could provide more space for students to pursue opportunities in careers like nursing. And while someone can become a registered nurse with only an associates degree ... Lake Land College Health Programs Chair Karla Hardiek said it's now more crucial to receive a bachelors. Lake Land's president Josh Bullock says at this point the idea for Illinois' community colleges to offer bachelor degrees is still in the discussion stage and nothing has been set. He says if it were to happen, the courses students would take would be identical to that of a four-year university.
