Coles County Air Show

Monday, 29 August 2016

The Coles County Memorial Airport hosted an air show this weekend that drew in thousands of people. The process of putting a show like this together was very time consuming, "We start about a year and a half in advance, we start looking at dates, and we start looking at acts. In December we start looking at paperwork and federal work" says Airport Manager Andrew Fearn. Paperwork is started early so aircraft can be approved in time for the show. At the show there are trained pilots who do tricks with their aircraft that are not normally done. Fearn says with these risky performances the airport has a set of guidelines and regulations they go by to ensure a safe show. Last years show was cancelled due to construction on the runway. The next air show is set for 2018.
