A canine death in Lerna is linked to animal abuse.
Officials with the Coles County Animal Shelter say a dog's remains were found near Lerna yesterday, after days of investigation.
They say the dog's body was found wrapped in a comforter in a trash can, and it's suspected the dog's body had been moved.
X-rays were performed on the remains yesterday, which officials say indicated beating.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact the shelter or the police.
No names are being released at this time.
