The U.S. Justice Department says it has reached an agreement with owners and operators of an Effingham mobile home park accused of discriminating against families with children and African-Americans.
The department says the agreement requires defendants from Four Seasons Estates Mobile Home Park to pay $217,500 to discrimination victims and $34,000 to the government.
The lawsuit accused the park's manager of refusing to let an African-American person be added as a resident when he moved in with his white girlfriend and her uncle.
The Justice Department says it also found the park manager treated prospective black tenants differently, and that defendants admitted to prohibiting families with kids from living on one of four rows of lots at the park.
The consent order must be approved by a federal court.
