Funeral plans are announced for Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy.
Macon County Coroner Michael Day says McElroy died Friday morning.
Day says an ambulance brought McElroy to St. Mary's Hospital in cardiac arrest.
He says emergency room physicians pronounced McElroy dead and he died of natural causes.
Governor Bruce Rauner called McElroy "a champion for the city of Decatur."
McElroy was elected mayor in 2009 and had been a City Council member since 2003.
He lost a bid for the Illinois Senate in 2012.
A public viewing is planned for Wednesday July 22nd from 12pm-2pm with a visitation for family and friends to follow from 3pm-8pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur.
The funeral is scheduled for 11am Thursday July 23rd also at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
