U of I Hires Next College of Law Dean

The University of Illinois has hired a legal scholar with long ties to California as the next dean of its College of Law.

The university announced Vikram Amar will become the new dean on August 16th, pending approval of the university's board of trustees.

Amar is the senior associate dean for academic affairs at the University of California, Davis School of Law.

He previously was a professor at UC Hastings and a visiting professor at UC Berkeley and UCLA.

Amar is a graduate of UC Berkeley and the Yale Law School.
   
Amar replaces interim Dean John Colombo.

He took over when Bruce Smith left the job in 2014.
