Mattoon police are asking for information on a robbery and homicide that happened at Toaster's bar. Police say they were called to the bar Monday evening around 8pm after reports an unresponsive man was inside the establishment at 1408 Broadway Avenue. Authorities have identified Benjamin E. Newton as the deceased bartender. Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers says the victim suffered a single gun shot wound to the head. Police are asking anyone who may have been at Toaster's or the Oasis Bar Monday night to contact them at (217) 235-5451. They say you can also contact the department through their Facebook page or via Crimestoppers at 345-8488. Callers may remain anonymous and could qualify for cash rewars for information that leads to an arrest.
