The University of Illinois is facing a lawsuit saying the school violated the Illinois' Freedom of Information Act.
Lawyers representing Steven Salaita filed the suit on Monday.
Court documents say the university refused requests to release documents that could shed light on the decision to withdraw a job offered to Salaita back in 2013.
Salaita had accepted a position at the university, but the offer was rescinded after he sent anti-Israel tweets during the war between Israel and Gaza.
