The Champaign County Board has voted not to use the Urbana Jail as a correctional facility.
The 35-year-old building could instead be used as a possible sheriff's office.
Officials say local engineers and planners are working on developing a master plan for the future of the downtown jail.
The County Board is expected to recieve a completed master plan by early 2015.
