Mattoon Police Officer Allegations

The Mattoon Board of Fire and Police Commisioners met Thursday to discuss disciplinary action related to a Mattoon 

The city of Mattoon is seeking to terminate Lieutenant Ronald Bateman from the Mattoon Police Department.

Today's meeting involved the board of fire and police commissoners.

Mattoon Police chief Jeff Branson was present along with departmental attorneys.

Ronald Bateman is accused of discharging a firearm approximately seven to eight times on or about February 4th outside his wife's residence during what authorities say was a domestic dispute.

On February 6th  Bateman was placed on paid administrative leave from the Mattoon Police Department.

During the suspension, Bateman was accused of violations including driving under the influence and sexual conduct with someone other than his wife while on duty.

He is also accused of other violations regarding the Mattoon Police Department.

News Watch asked Bateman about the allegations,. but he would only say the truth will come out at the next hearing scheduled for May.

 Also during, by a unanimous vote, Bateman was suspended without pay.

He will appear again before the board on May 21st at nine.

At this point, no criminal charges have been filed against Bateman for the alleged incidents.

Bateman did tell News Watch it's his understanding no criminal charges will be filed against him.
