DeRyke Trial May Get Delayed

A trial may be delayed for a man charged with killing his niece.

Justin DeRyke of Watson is charged with killing 7-year-old Willow Long in early September.

His trial is scheduled for December 2.

But the Effingham County State's Attorney's office says that may be delayed because investigators are still collecting evidence in the case.

The office says the investigation "is probably not going to be resolved anytime soon".

DeRyke insists he killed his niece to "put her out of her misery" because she fell on a brush pile and pierced her neck.

Prosecutors say they're seeking a life sentence for her death and his next court appearance, where new evidence may be admitted, is November 25.
