Champaign Shootings Update: Arrests Made

Wednesday, 12 June 2013

Champaign police arrested three people they suspect were involved at least some of the shootings that injured six people since Friday.

But police Chief Troy Daniels expects more arrests in the cases, which he says appear to be driven by a gang dispute.

Daniels says investigators think the dispute involves several gangs, but declined to provide further details.

At least some of the shootings appear to be related.

The five shootings, which happened since Friday, took place in a handful of neighborhoods on the north side of Champaign.

Police say none of the people who were shot had life-threatening injuries.

Some community leaders have complained the shootings have left people in the affected areas afraid to go outside their homes.
