Charleston Substitute Teacher Arrest

Friday, 9 February 2018

A substitute teacher is arrested at Jefferson Elementary School in Charleston.

U.S. Marshals arrested Adrian Rivas on felony charges yesterday at the school.

The Charleston Police Department assisted U.S. Marshals in tracking, arresting, and transporting Rivas, said Chad Reed, Deputy Chief of Charleston Police.

An arrest warrant was issued for Rivas out of Montgomery County, Texas on January 19th, said Coles County State's Attorney Brian Bower.

Bower also said charges against Rivas include Indecency with a Child.

Rivas remains in the Coles County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Bond conditions stated Rivas cannot have contact with anyone under the age of 18, unless they're family, or the visit is supervised.

While Charleston Schools Superintendent Todd Villardo was not in the office today, Assistant Superintendent Chad Burgett said the arrest was done away from students.

All other questions regarding Rivas' employment with the school district were directed to Villardo.
