The Effingham police department is turning to bicycles to patrol the city.
Recently, the Effingham Park District donated two Trek bikes to the police to begin bicycle patrols.
Police chief Jeff Fuesting says the patrols will start immediately.
He says several Officers have already completed the certified police bicyclists training, and others are scheduled to go through this program in the near future.
Fuesting says the program will allow officers to interact more closely with citizens.
He says residents will see an increase police presence at city parks, on the Trek Trail, in neighborhoods and at special events throughout the community.
