Effingham Apartment Fire

An apartment building in Effingham caught fire Monday evening around 5 P.M.

The Effingham fire department was called to 501 N. Fourth Street for a reported structure fire.

Fire Officals say the unit housed serveral tenants containing seven apartments.

Teutoplis and Watson fire departments were called in to help tame the fire and assist with a search of the any teanents who may have been left behind.

Authorities say the fire was brought under control and contained between the garage/furnance area of the first floor.

They say smoke damage was throughout the entire complex and the building is uninhabitable.

A State Fire Marshal is investigating the structure for a cause.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 10 P.M. and no injuries have been reported.
