Eastern Illinois University's Board of Trustees votes to eliminate some degree programs at the Charleston campus.

Earlier today, the board decided to get rid of Africana studies and the adult and community education program.

The Philosophy program was originally on the list to eliminate, but will remain.

Officials say cutting philosophy would have resulted in layoffs.

The elimination of the degree programs come amid the nearly two-year-long state budget impasse.
