Taxpayer Warning

Wednesday, 1 February 2017

Tax season comes with a warning from the state attorney general.

Lisa Madigan is urging tax payers to avoid applying for expensive refund anticipation products that consume as much as a thousand dollars from their tax refund.

She also says to not open or reply to any e-mails claiming to be from the IRS that contain a request for personal information and to contact the IRS directly to find out if the solicitation is legitimate.

The attorney general's office is also delaying tax refunds until February 15th for more than 40 million low income families claiming the earned income tax credit and the child tax credit.
