The city of Effingham is looking to hire more police officers, and using a tax levy to pay for it.
The city council discussed the levy at a Truth and Taxation meeting last night.
Council member Don Althoff says, for example, the potential 10.58% increase would cost homeowners an extra $56 in property taxes, on a $150,000 home.
Officials say this would generate $425,000 to help pay for four new officers.
The council will discuss the matter again on December 1st, at the next city council meeting.
