U of I Beats Notre Dame in NCAA Regional

Drasen Johnson threw a three-hitter to help Illinois beat Notre Dame 3-0 on Sunday in the NCAA regional tournament.

Johnson (10-3) threw 106 pitches, and only allowed one base runner after the fifth inning, a single by Ryan Bull.

Adam Walton, Reid Roper and Ryne Roper drove in runs for the Illini (49-8).

Ryan Smoyer (9-1) was the loser for the Irish (37-22).

Cavan Biggio and Bull each had two hits for Notre Dame.

The Irish will face Wright State on Sunday night, with the winner advancing to play Illinois on Monday.

The Illini have won 18 consecutive home games, the longest current streak in the NCAA.
Illinois, 24-2 at Illinois Field this season, had a Big Ten-record 27-game winning streak from March 30th to May 20th.
