Bryant Sent Down

Monday, 30 March 2015

After much discussion on what the Cubs would do with phenom Kris Bryant, Chicago reassigned him to minor league camp Monday.

If Bryant stays in the minors for 12 or more days, the Cubs will get to keep him for an extra year and his contract will expire in 2021, rather than 2020.

Due to MLB rules on drafted players, 12 days in the minors is the magic number to prevent Bryant from accruing one year of service time.

Bryant batted .425 with 9HR and 15 RBI in spring training this year.

The Cubs also optioned second baseman Javy Baez to Triple-A Iowa and reassigned shortstop Addison Russell were assigned to minor league camp.
