The Crestwood School District and the Paris Carnegie Public Library are now offering library cards to non-resident students, at no cost.
This was made possible through an intergovernmental agreement, that allowed the library to extend its services to students of the rural school district.
In exchange, the school will provide valuable resources to the library, such as safety training for the library staff, officials said.
For many low income families, getting a library card can present a financial challenge, said library director Ceili Boylan.
Out of the 299 elementary and 127 junior high students, the Crestwood School District reports that 25 percent came from low income families in 20-22, said Boylan.
The library cards are strictly for the students and misused cards will be suspended, stated Boylan.
