Young Spectator Injured at Effingham Co. Fairgrounds

Update from the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, August 3, 2023

"The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office received a notification from the Office of the City of St. Louis Medical Examiner that Harper Finn, age 5 of Altamont, passed away Wednesday evening at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, in St. Louis.  Harper was involved in an accident at the Fair on July 30^th. The investigation into the accident is being conducted by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, and is ongoing.  We appreciate the public’s assistance and willingness to help in this investigation, and our deepest condolences  go out to the Finn family and all of those involved."

Effingham County Fair officials cancel harness racing this week after an incident at the track.

Officials said the incident happened Sunday and involved a starting gate at the race track.

A five-year-old girl was injured and airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis.

Fair officials said they are working closely with police and emergency personnel as the investigation continues.
