Champaign County authorities released details Tuesday of a fiery crash that left a woman dead Monday.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office says that crash happened on County Road 2500 East, southwest of Homer.

A preliminary investigation found a vehicle driven by Karen Parr, 82, of Newman gradually left the roadway, then hit a tree, they said.

A passerby pulled Parr from the vehicle and began CPR, but stopped after determining she was dead, the sheriff's office said.

Shortly afterward, the vehicle burst into flame, and was totally destroyed, they said.

Parr was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:08 pm.

There are also no signs of another person in the car at any point, the sheriff's office said.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has been scheduled and the circumstances around the crash are still being investigated.
