Mattoon woman faces charges after a fight that ended in a hit-and-run

The Charleston Police Department arrested Justyna Monegain (34) on Friday, officers said.

Witnesses described seeing a fight between Monegain and another woman, ending with Monegain pulling out and firing a gun, police said.

Officers were called to the scene, but both women left in their vehicles before officials arrived, Charleston Police said.

While driving away from the fight, Monegain hit a parked vehicle and a home, officers said.

Monegain fled the scene of the crash and her vehicle was later discovered at the scene of the crash by police, officials said.

Officers found her gun under a bush by her crashed vehicle, they said.

Monegain has been denied pre-trial release and remains in the Coles County Jail, court records show.

Her next court date is set for Tuesday, January 20th.
