Coles County Murder Trial Underway

A Coles County murder trial is underway.

28-year-old Joshua Fairchild is accused of stabbing to death Cheleta Branch in 2021 and leaving her body under a tarp and clothes in his Charleston home.

According to court records, Fairchild had been in state care for treatment after being found unfit to stand trial in October 2021.

The trial started Monday with jury selection.
