Cumberland Co. Man Sentenced to 11 1/2 Yrs in Child Abuse Case

A Cumberland County man is headed to prison after pleading guilty in a child abuse case.

On August 7th, 27-year-old Gabriel Gonzalez of Neoga pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated battery of a child.

The Illinois State Police said on February 22nd 2022, a two-year-old boy was taken to a local trauma center.

The incident reportedly happened at a home in the 800 block of Walnut Street, said police.

According to court records, another charge of aggravated battery of a child was dismissed in the case.

Gonzalez was sentenced to eleven and a half years in prison with credit for 531 days served, according to court records.
